MongoDB® client for macOS

Work in your database without handing it to anyone else.

MongoIDE is a native Mac app for developers and business teams who query, edit, and export MongoDB data. It runs on your machine. It does not create an account, and it does not send your documents anywhere except the server you connect to.

One-time purchase on the Mac App Store. The app is continually improved and updated. Minimum supported MongoDB version: 4.0.

Who it is for

A daily driver, not a dashboard you log into.

Developers

Inspect collections, shape aggregations, try a shell command, and fix a document without leaving the Mac. Several connections can stay open at once.

Operators and analysts

Filter, sort, and export the rows you need. Read-only mode is the default, so looking at production does not turn into an accidental write.

Companies

No shared login to a vendor cloud. Each person buys the app on their own Apple ID. Secrets stay in that Mac’s Keychain.

What you can do

The work, in one window.

  • Connections

Hosts, replica sets, mongodb+srv, TLS, and an auth database. Passwords go to the Keychain. Touch ID unlocks the vault.

  • SSH to a private host

The tunnel runs inside the app and listens only on 127.0.0.1. Password or an OpenSSH ed25519 or RSA key. It does not launch system ssh.

  • Table, tree, JSON

The same documents, three ways. Filter, projection, and sort stay next to the results, with paging so a large collection does not load at once.

  • Edit with a brake on

Editing is off until you switch it on. Change a field in place, or set one value across the current query. Large updates run in batches and show progress.

  • Aggregations and shell

Reorder pipeline stages visually, or use IntelliShell for mongosh-style commands, with hints for collections, methods, and stages.

  • Indexes, queries, export

List, create, and drop indexes. Save find and aggregation queries. Export CSV, Excel, or JSON from the loaded page, a selection, or every match.

Data security

Your database is not our product.

MongoIDE is a client. There is no MongoIDE account, no analytics SDK, and no server of ours in the path. If the app cannot reach your MongoDB host, it cannot show your data to anyone else either.

That is the point for a business tool: the people who already run the database keep the data. The Mac app is only the window.

What stays on the Mac

  • Profiles and passwords live in the Keychain, unlocked with Touch ID or the device password.
  • The App Sandbox limits the app to network access and files you pick in open and save panels.
  • The SSH forward binds to localhost. Other machines on the network cannot attach to it.
  • Writes are blocked until Editing is on. Bulk changes ask before they start.
  • TLS is available for the MongoDB connection. Authentication uses SCRAM-SHA-256.
  • This website does not set tracking cookies or load third-party scripts.

How it compares

Pay for a Mac app, not for a seat in someone else’s cloud.

Other MongoDB tools are useful. Some are free and cross-platform. Some are large IDEs billed per person every year. MongoIDE is the narrow option: a native Mac client you buy once.

Question MongoIDE A typical desktop GUI A per-seat IDE
Where it runs Native macOS app Often a wrapped web view on several operating systems Desktop installer, sometimes with a license server
Who holds the data Your MongoDB server. No vendor account. Usually the same, but some builds add telemetry Your server, plus a vendor relationship for the license
Secrets macOS Keychain and Touch ID Often a local file or the app’s own store Varies. Some sync settings through the vendor
Price One purchase on the Mac App Store Free, or a subscription beside a limited free tier Annual price per user
Accidental writes Off until you enable Editing Often writable as soon as you connect Depends on the product’s permission model
Reach Mac only, macOS 26 or later Windows, Mac, and Linux Usually every desktop

Objections, answered

Questions worth asking before you install a database client.

Will you be able to see our documents?

No. Polozhevets OÜ does not operate a proxy in front of your database. The app opens a connection from the Mac to the host you typed. We do not receive queries, results, or passwords.

A free official GUI already exists. Why pay?

Use the free tool if it is enough. MongoIDE is for people who want a Mac-native window, a write switch that starts off, Keychain storage, and a one-time price instead of a yearly seat. It is not trying to be every platform.

We already pay for a large IDE.

Keep it if the team depends on it. MongoIDE does not replace SQL migration suites, visual schema maps, or a license portal. It replaces the daily browse-query-edit-export loop on a Mac, without another renewal.

Is it safe to open a production cluster?

Connect in read-only mode, which is the default. Editing has to be turned on in the status bar. A change that matches many documents asks for a count first, then writes in batches so one huge update does not sit on a single request.

Does the SSH tunnel expose MongoDB on our network?

The local side binds to 127.0.0.1 only. The app speaks SSH itself, so the Mac App Store sandbox does not have to launch system SSH. Use a key the app is allowed to read. Choose the key in the connection editor so macOS can grant access again after a restart.

What about host keys, TLS, and auth?

Turn on TLS when the server expects it. Database users authenticate with SCRAM-SHA-256. The SSH client accepts the server key presented at connect time. If your policy requires a pinned host key, treat that as a gap and do not use the tunnel for that host yet.

Is this a subscription? Can we deploy it with a site license?

It is a one-time Mac App Store purchase. The app is continually improved, and updates are included. There is no floating license server. Each person uses their own Apple ID.

Will it run on Windows, Linux, or an older Mac?

No. MongoIDE requires macOS 26 or later. The minimum supported MongoDB version is 4.0. If you need another operating system, this is the wrong app.

Where is the company, and who do we contact?

MongoIDE is published by Polozhevets OÜ in Estonia and sold on the Mac App Store. Write to us on the support page.

Requirements

macOS 26+. MongoDB you already run.

Requires macOS 26 or later. Install from the Mac App Store, open Connections, and point it at localhost, Atlas, or a host behind SSH. Test the connection, then double-click a collection.

The minimum supported server version is MongoDB 4.0, including replica sets and mongodb+srv.
